Robey? Long before Gillian Anderson caught my eye in The X-Files, another redhead captured my attention in, of all things, Friday the 13th, The Series. I can't even remember what channel this would be on late Saturday nights, but it took over for Wild, Wild West in the late night viewing department. You know, I don't recall ever seeing the same episode of Wild, Wild West twice back then. Great show. Eventually, Freddy's Nightmares, and Tales from the Darkside would join the late night rotation. Is it any surprise that I still watch horror movies?

Anyway, I just wondered.

Interesting PC World article with some blurbs about different things like magnets and PCs, "hackers", etc. I'm sure some of that stuff will not be new information for some folks, though.

I was reading a thread about Israel Kamamawiwo'ole (Bruddah Iz) and his rising popularity when I read about Eva Cassidy. Really, really, good. It's a shame neither of them is with us any longer.

How odd, I've been given some 40 Mountain Dew caps for the Dew U promotion. My boss and T drink a TON of Mountain Dew. Those forty caps, however, are quite a way away from the five hundred some needed for the good merchandise, though. They both want me to get the Powell designed Mountain Dew skateboard and see me on it--mostly to see how badly I could injure myself, I'm sure. I would actually prefer using the caps for one of the X Box packages that are offered--of which I just found out are all sold out, sheesh.

Anyway, the funny thing about this is that we can get it for free from our cafeteria--as long as we provide our own cups. Actually, Monica, who runs the cafe, doesn't mind if we occasionally use their cups, but really it's not too difficult to bring one in of our own, you know? So, really, why pay for the drink if one can get it for free? Yes, it is an inconvenience to get up and go across the highway to get a free drink. Yes, it is annoying when people stop us in the hall to ask if we've gotten their e-mail, solved their problem, made things right in the world, whatever. Yes, it uses up just a wee bit of gas--but really, it's free. Mostly free. On a good day, there might be orange juice, or even better, cranberry juice. The convenience of having a drink vending machine two steps outside of our office door is much too expensive for my tastes. Yeah, it's only forty dollars, but I could use that for something else.

Anything.

Oooo, Magic cards!

I forgot to mention the strangest show that was on Trio late last night. It was called Girls Alone. The premise was taking a group of a dozen girls, put them in a house and letting them be--obviously with crew and producers and family close by to ensure safety, well, I hope anyway. I ended up staying up until one in the morning to see what ended up happening at the end--basically the girls were returned to their parents. While things didn't get to the point where it was like Lord of the Flies, one wonders what things would have been like if the girls had to stay longer than a week in the house. They fed themselves, played a lot, slept very little, and carried on. The group, however, did not clean up after themselves--the house was a wreck after the week, part of me hoped that they at least practiced some good hygiene. That wasn't covered--which was fine by me--but I thought about it.

Parents were able to view their daughters through some CCTV system the producers had rigged up. None of the parents commented on any of the children's behavior. For example, one girl continually kept all the other awake through most of the night. Eventually, it got to the point where all the other girls ostracized the girl--albeit for a very short time, say a few hours or so. Two girls were entirely too homesick and left before the week was up. That would have been me, I think. Maybe. It was funny when one of the younger girls was preparing dinner and told a few of the others not to eat chips and candy, since dinner would be ready soon.

Very strange and I felt odd watching it. Can't say I know what the point was. The-N is doing something similar, but more along the lines of a mini Road Rules/Real World vein, called Boys vs. Girls: Hawaii. My mom would never have let me do a show like that at their age. Heck, my mom only let me spend the night at a friends place maybe once or twice that I can recall. As far as Boys vs. Girls is concerned, I've not watched it. It's not really my thing.

Rachel, Abby, Jonothan, and our niece Lindsey are flying back today and should be departing PIT for MCO at 12:05 p.m. I have a couple of errands to run, and one or two things to clean up at home and will be driving to pick them up in a little while.

It's bittersweet, since both Abby and Jonothan start day care on Monday and I have to work through the weekend this week. Rachel has never rarely had to drop Abby off in the mornings, and believe me, it was tough doing so when Abby was really little. I've tried not to think too much on it, but here we are.

My friend Matt and his wife Lisa are moving to Sarasota on Sunday. If it weren't for work--and we could use the cash--I'd help them out. It's kind of sad, but I am happy for them. Lisa's new job sounds like it'll be exciting for her, but Matt's still looking for something. At one point, there was a chance he could have a job in our office, but that's not going to work out now. They said they're going to get their new place ready for visitors, so maybe when the kids are a bit older, we'll trek to Sarasota.

Rachel just phoned about forty-five minutes ago. Their flight's delayed and it's taxied back to the gate.

She eventually called again, and it looks like they're not leaving until 5:00 p.m. putting their arrival time at about 6:30 p.m. or somewhere around there.

I just hope she has enough formula for Jonothan, and enough for Abby to do.
