Is not something that I could ever honestly say that I have been. Ever.

As far back as I can remember, I made no real concerted effort at anything really. This is actually very much against a typical only child personality--from what little bits and pieces I've read about birth order factors. Go me, not wanting to live the stereotype. Woo! I mean, I have a strong sense of duty, to be sure and I am very much a stick with the traditions type of personality--so I'm not totally going against my supposed type. Mine is a fine example of a dichotomy in a large number of ways.

Anyway, I've found myself being (perhaps unnecessarily) exceptionally hard on both Abby and Jon. I have to step back, sometimes with prompting, as to why in the world I am that way with them. Perhaps it's a normal parent thing, it certainly isn't me per se. It's not something that I feel came from my mother or step-father. They were many things, but type A personalities was not one of them.

At work, I expect the best from the kids I work with--though I would like to think that I'm not as hard on them as I am with my own.

Tomorrow afternoon, I'll be going with our E Team (Economics Team) and their coach to their first competition. I'm nervous for them and wonder if I've run them through enough drills. We'll see how they do and what we need to work on. I can't wait! If one had told me a year ago that this is what I'd be doing, I'd not have believed them. In fact, hearty laughter may have ensued. My life is a good life.

I had set up a VPN connection for my current job. It's come in VERY handy, to say the least.

The problem I ran into was a constant pop up prompting for my VPN credentials. Sometimes I'd not get it, but for the most part I grew to loathe the seemingly neverending prompts for login info. So, I suffered with it for a bit (read: going on about two months now).

I ended up doing a GIS on it and found this.

Sure enough, that worked. I never would have guessed IE settings would be the true culprit.

So, in case you need it, there you are.

So. I had to get a physical late yesterday afternoon.

No sir, didn't like it--well the VERY close inspection of parts I didn't really want to be inspected.

Whoa, indeed.

Because this kind of entry is exceptionally easy for me, and I actually keep a text file of my Friday sevens, here you are.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Crossroads
Obie Trice - Cheers
Descendents - Pervert
Matchbook Romance - My Stories Your Alibis
Ozzy Osbourne - Bark At The Moon
George Harrison - When We Was Fab
Descendents - Hope

Wow, Winamp has yet again managed to jump around in crazy ways--with the exception of repeating Descendents, which I found odd. Whatever happened to Bone Thugs? Obie Trice is on my playlist thanks to my coworker sharing his external hard drive with me.

Now, Descendents...I think the first time I heard them was in a skate video of some sort. Then I remember them played in Pump Up the Volume. I was VERY disappointed that the soundtrack did not include Weinerschnitzel on it. How I even tracked down the song, I have no idea. From the movie credits perhaps?

No idea how Matchbook Romance got on my list.

Ozzy, well my stepfather introduced me to Ozzy so there's that. One of the people that works in the same work area has Ozzy's Crazy Train as their phone's default ringer. Rock!

Lastly, George Harrison. I have to say I like this song better than I Got My Mind Set On You--despite liking the video for that song at one time.

Recap complete.

I think I'll post last week's as well and I will have at least have it posted.

Hey...a seven. Woo!

Black Flag - Gimme Gimme Gimme
The Jazz Jury - Car Train
Biz Markie - You Say He's Just a Friend
Will To Power - Baby, I Love Your Way
Urban Dance Squad - Fastlane
Anne Hathaway and Jesse McCartney - Don't Go Breakin' My Heart
Enya - Storms in Africa II

There are SO many Black Flag songs that I really enjoy that it's kind of difficult to find one I don't like. Now, if only I can get a copy of Who's Got the 10 and 1/2? on MP3. It was the first Black Flag I ever bought--during a Christmas break trip to Gatlinburg way back when. That tape wore out long ago.

Car Train always reminds me of Swingers, since it is on the soundtrack and all. I wish I could remember where I'd originally heard it (or think I heard it).

"Yooooooooou! Got what I need"! No further comment needed, right?

Wow, I remember Will to Power getting tons of airplay.

You know, I always thought UDS was going to be HUGE. I'm not sure why they didn't breakthrough. Guess that's why I'm not an A&R person.

While I prefer Elton John and Kiki Dee's original version, this version from Ella Enchanted will do. Abby really loves it. She actually just likes the song, no matter who sings it. Well, unless I try to sing it, I'm sure.

Enya. Don't judge me, okay?

I hate that I always add an s to Communication--thereby fouling up the file import into Access that I need to run.

Stupid! Why can't I remember?!

Since I settled into the office space where I've been for some time now, my coworker Jason and I usually entertain each other with either mom or that's what she said jokes.

Nothing, however, has been anywhere near as entertaining as the single red Comark ruler that we have used as a variety of different things. From weapons to thumbs up extenders, this red ruler has met and exceeded any entertainment that we'd have come up with ourselves.

In the last couple of weeks, someone else has donated another identical ruler to our cause.

Oh yeah!

I have also forgotten to mention how depressing some of the Christmas tunes have been to me. Some--not all, but some have just brought me down.

Good thing we have two rulers now, though.

So, we had our Christmas Luncheon and gift exchange yesterday.

Barbecue was GOOD!

It got around to gift opening time, and I started unwrapping it--unsure of what I'd get. It felt heavy, as if perhaps a ceramic mug was part of it. My eyes went to the nori in the box and I liked where this was going. Next thing I saw was a container of sushi rice. Both of these pleased me quite a bit. "Keep unwrapping," I heard from the gift-giver. Under it all was a $30.00 gift certificate to Tsunami Sushi--a local place which is a favorite of mine.

I went the easier route for the person I got a gift for and got a nice Bath and Body Works gift set for them. I am unsure if they liked it or not because they work in a remote office out of state. I would hope they liked it, though since it was a favorite store of theirs according to the interests sheet.

Thanks to someone's Twitter entry about Getting Things Done (GTD), I've stumbled across the Hipster PDA.

Good thing is that I can put a quick and dirty one together with the stuff I have in the office.

Who called for the ovinomancer to cast a spell on me?

So, one of our business partners has a Sharepoint site that we all use for several different things. The problem is that I keep getting a "Server Error in '/' Application." error message. It's a bit better than the Service Unavaiable message I had been getting. Yes, there are other things I could be doing, but I am really just trying to get by until end of the day today. Thankfully, a 2:00 p.m. meeting this afternoon will assist with this.

Samuel--brother-in-law--and I are finally having a dinner I've owed him for, oh I don't know, at least a year--if not longer. As a result, we'll probably head over and watch Transformers as well. My expectations are set to low, and I'm really going more for nostalgia than anything else. Bumblebee should be a VW Bug, not a Camaro--and I still haven't gotten over that. No Soundwave irritates me, but Digital Spy reports that not only one but TWO Transformers sequels have already been given the green light.

Decided to check out a copy of Lunar Park. I haven't picked up either of my copies of Less Than Zero or American Psycho in some, and perhaps I might again after finishing this one. I can't even remember what happened to my bought on the cheap copy of The Informers, and perhaps one day I can actually return the copy of The Rules of Attraction I've had on extended load (read: going on about five years now). Remakes are big in Hollywood anymore, it makes me wonder if anyone has ever thought about producing a film version of Less Than Zero that's a bit more true to the book. Yes, it would be difficult, given the pace and style of the book. Don't get me wrong, I actually liked the one that's already out there. Flash Gordon is being given treatment again, isn't it? Eh, who knows?

This weekend will be a working weekend, with a business trip to Tampa beginning on Thursday night and going through Saturday. I'm looking forward to sushi.

Mmmm, sushi!

I swear my LCD is ghosting, or is it just my eyes?

After the long meeting this morning, it could just be a mental thing...

Unless someone slipped something in my Code Red.

The 12:30 p.m. meeting earlier today was canceled due to a newly discovered defect found on the test server we're to do QA testing on.

The 5:00 p.m. meeting scheduled for this afternoon has been canceled. I was mentally prepared to stay, but am glad I don't have to stay 'til all hours of the night.

The meeting cancellations are nice, but I will eventually have to reschedule, so it's effectively just delaying the inevitable.

Totally unrelated: due to recent Aliens discussions elsewhere, I now want the Alien Quadrilogy. Not that I need it, I'm just wanting.

Seems like I got a little click happy with a 551 page PDF file I put together--Firefox seems to be choking on it. Well, could be Firefox or could be Adobe Acrobat.

Either way, I'm sitting here waiting to see if my file updloaded correctly or not.

This tells you how little I have been around the office water cooler.

The huge bottles are now pretty much monkey proof? The way the Culligan bottles for the cooler are, there's absolutely no way to spill the water all over the place like the bottle styles that require one to remove the entire cap off of it.

We're having someone out today to estimate how much it would be to paint our home. We'll see if that's the route we go.

So, I'm a bit slow on the uptake. mineral777Adam told me about Twitter some time ago, and I'm only now signing up for an account.

Yes, you too can keep up with the excitement and adventure that is my life--update by LIVE update.

Anyone else use it?

But it seems as if something was in the food today. I'm SO tired now.

And I've got a lot of reading to do before the end of the day...I'm trying different things to keep myself awake--with varying degrees of success. Fan's on full blast, drinking water, kind of pseudo-slapping my face and getting up here and there to try and wake up a bit. ...snore...

Currently finishing my first week of working for Insight Public Sector division.

I'm still training and picking things up. Still waiting to get my own personal office area to set up soon, so that I'm not intruding on others' space.

This week has FLOWN by in a very good way.

Am considering going to see Ghost Rider with some folks from my previous office. Not sure yet, though. It might be dependent on if my copy of Counter-Strike for Xbox and the Logitech Play Link for Xbox comes in. If they do...hmmm, it'll make the decision making that much more difficult.

So today was my last day of work at my previous place of employment. I think things were made easier since it is not as if I am moving many many miles away from friends for my new job.

It was an odd day, as only my department head, some student workers and I were there. About half the department called in for different reasons. A reception was held for me, and was very nice--though I must admit it is an odd thing to be the center of attention (despite liking life is filled with strange dichotomies). My day was a short one, as I was done at 1:30 in the afternoon. Despite the small amount of hours I put it today, it was really really busy.

The day was made even more odd because Rachel and I had to go to a funeral for the husband of the student intern she had last semester. On February the 12th, Shane Odell Burrus died suddenly, leaving behind his wife Tina, four sons and extended family. It was absolutely shocking, to put it mildly and to say the least. The service was very well done, but I have to say that it was absolutely heartbreaking when his sons went up to the casket to see their father. Even thinking about it while writing this is making me tear up. As usual, I cannot imagine what that family must be going through now.

Now it's time for change.

After working at my current workplace for more than six years, I tendered my resignation this week. I will be leaving to work at the local offices of Insight. I have been searching for something else on and off for a little while, but the current opportunity with Insight has been the best of anything that I'd been looking into.

So, needless to say (but I do so anyway), I am VERY excited--heck, ecstatic even--to start my new job on the 19th.

Also, Abby has now lost her second baby tooth. I can't believe it, really.
