Of course! Now I know why I recognized Ethan Suplee in those quick flashes in The Butterfly Effect commercials!

He was William Black (?? I originally thought he was Snowball) in Mallrats (trying to figure out the 3-D picture), Seth Ryan in American History X, and Tuna in Blow.

Ever since the advertising bombardment for that movie began, it has been bugging me where I'd seen this guy before. A new, albeit miniscule, wrinkle is forming on my brain.

And, since Johnny Depp seems to be a topic of discussion lately--and Blow has been advertised heavily--P is the band Johnny Depp, and Gibby Haynes (from Butthole Surfers) are/were in together.

Don't forget - Ethan was also on BOY MEETS WORLD for a while! Ha ha.

I'll bet my nieces would've been able to place him from that show, as they LOVED it.

Of course, I don't think I'll be taking them to watch The Butterfly Effect, though.

Actually, Willem IS Snowball - it's one of those wacky little in-jokes Kevin Smith puts in all the New Jersey trilogy. (I know he says that somewhere on the viewaskew website, but I'm buggered if I can find it. Oh well.)

Oh, and there are also references in Dogma, too, come to think of it. For example: the bus company Bartleby and Loki try to buy tickets from is called Derris. As in, Rick Derris who hits on Alyssa's sister in Clerks, who Gwen bangs on a pool table in Mallrats, etc etc... oh God. I am such a movie geek.

You know, I don't think I ever noticed the Derris on the bus.

I do love when writers/directors rotate characters around in the same universe. Tarantino does a similar sort of thing, if I remember correctly.
