WoW vortex

Weak willed that I am, I have decided to try out WoW.

I resisted this MMORPG behemoth (I always imagine Steven Wright as the K-Billy DJ mispronouncing the word in Reservoir Dogs) for just over six years now, but after hearing my brother-in-law rave about it I chose to try it out.

It had been a while since I'd even fired up Guild Wars, and in my mind I thought it'd be so close that I'd be, "Eh, whatev."

But I wasn't.

The thing is, I can't even really explain the attraction for me. Additionally funny to me is how ashamed I am to admit that I am a WoW player now.

What a sucker I am!

I have given some thought to putting WoW cards on my wish list--since Rachel's family always wonders what I'd like to get as a gift.

Since I mentioned Reservoir Dogs, I found it interesting that TCM ran Au Revoir Les Enfants the other day. Tarantino once called that the Reservoir movie, didn't he? It's all connected in one way or another, it seems.

I tried WoW, but could not get into it at all, I fear.

I was convinced I would hate it...and did not. It was odd to me how much I've enjoyed it so far.

It just seemed... "samey" to me. "Kill X number of creatures for this quest." "Get this object." repeat ad infinity.

Very true. It definitely has a lot of that in it.

Part of it for me is the fact that I held the old Warcraft II RTS in such high regard. I have to say I really enjoyed grouping together with family and some RL friends to play. I'll finish out the trial period happily, and wonder what I will do from that point moving forward...

I suppose I just tend to like games that involve more free-roaming, like SL. I tried out SL and WoW at the same time, and much preferred SL.

I thought about Second Life as well...that one and I think one called There.

I could see getting sucked into that one as well, BIG time.

Well, should you ever get onto SL, hit me up! Never used There, though.

Cool. I may try it again. Depends on what I end up doing with WoW.

Not sure how it compares, but here's the Wiki entry for There (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_%28Internet_service%29).

I take it back - I did use There, now that I recall, but preferred SL much more.
