Trillian

It's taken me this long to figure it out--even after using Trillian for over four or five years. I've forgotten how long I've used it for.

Anyway, I wanted to update my AIM buddy list, you know clean people off that I've not seen online in quite some time, that sort of thing (that and Trillian was none too happy that I had more than 200 people on my Buddy List). So, I tried doing it directly from Trillian. Didn't work. Logged in using AIM Express and updated my list. Logged into Trillian and all the people I'd gotten rid of a few moments earlier reappeared in a Merged Contacts group. Okay. Tried logging in with an installed AIM client (thanks to mineral777Adam's suggestion and Old Version). That didn't work.

Finally, late in the afternoon yesterday, I read a little tidbit in a forum somewhere. I'd direct link it, but I'm too lazy to look in my Firefox history right now.

One has to log in using an AOL AIM client and update one's Buddy List. Then, before logging into Trillian, you'll have to search for the Buddies.xml file from your Trillian profile and delete it (or rename the extension, in case you'd like to have a backup of it). Once you log in using Trillian, your Buddy List should be all tidy like. Now, it is important to mention that if you use Trillian on other systems, you'll have to delete/rename the Buddies.xml file on those PCs as well, or your AIM Buddy List will get repopulated to its previous state--very annoying after having cleaned it up, I tell ya.

So, that's that, and really, this is for me, in case I forget how to do this again later on.

oh!!!
thank you for posting this. i was confused because when i would try to move buddies around in my groups they would end up having clones of themselves all over the place. trillian is a great software generally but that is annoying as spikey crap.

Awesome! Hope that will help.

As much as I LOVE Trillian, that really bugged me.

That exact issue is the reason why I stopped using Trillian. Thank you for posting a fix, though I'm too jaded by now to want to go back to Trillian.

It really is a great piece of software. Try it again. Come on, every body else is doing it.

Man, I was a Trillian user before Trillian was cool. I was actually in on the Beta. I eventually stopped using it because, well, to be honest... I never used the ICQ or MSN features, and I prefer mIRC for IRC... So it seems to me to be easier to just use AIM, since it takes MUCH less of my system processes.

Yes, that's right. Trillian lags my computer. Laugh away, funny man.

Trillian pro 2.0 only takes up less than 1mb of my RAM and aim 5.5 takes up 2mb of my ram. Thus I side with GAIM for personal and Trillian at work
