So, I'm in the process of waiting on the iTunes installer to download.

I'm curious how my MP3 collection will be affected, and how much more I will want an iPod afterwards. The desire is bad enough already, it can only get worse.

Oh my god it is for Windows now too?! Let me know how it goes. Even though really I don't think it would be able to play WMAs which is what all my music is. I'm looking at the site and it doesn't say if it supports anything other than mp3.

So far, the install went ok. I've managed to lock up the software three times, it keeps choking on our 6,000 plus song list.

I've not read anything about WMA files, but I've shied away from those, since I thought the file sizes would be too large. I'll have to try those sometime.

As of right now, it's getting along with a 2,000 song playlist, and is doing some of the stuff that Winamp would do, visualizations, shuffle play (which I could never figure out in WMP). I'll have to keep using it to see about keeping this or not.

I made the switch to WMA cause the file sizes are actually smaller for the same (bit rate?) quality mp3. This meant I could shove more on my mp3 player.

Ok, I've got all my songs into the Library (my count was off, we have 7,730). I had to break down each playlist by drive (the songs are all on three different network drives).

I'm now in the process of rating, and cleaning up my playlist--which will take a while. I wish I could come into work tomorrow to fiddle around a bit with the ratings and settings and such.

So far, so good.

One iTunes review

Can be found here (http://slashdot.org/articles/03/10/19/0053242.shtml?tid=107&tid=141&tid=187&tid=188).

He seemed pretty happy with it as well. I'm anxious to see how it burns.
