808 State

Every time I see a digital clock displaying 8:08 as the time, I think of 808 State.

Now, I know that their name is derived from a model of synthesizer--well, scratch that, I think that band's name originates from a piece of electronic equipment, but I almost always feel an 808 kind of feeling from seeing that time displayed. Yup. What times make you think of other things?

Yes, I am listening to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as I work at my desk, and am in the process of making a back up copy of it. Must thank Sam (nebsllimBen's brother, and my brother-in-law for sharing it with me.

Glad you like it! :)

The best will be when I get all of the Justice 8 done so I can put it together into one big picture. :)

Cool. Ex:El is probably my favorite work of theirs, though I haven't listened to Gorgeous, and should sometime.

It's actually from one of the all-time neatest drum machines, the Roland TR-808.

Isn't it much better to listen to HHGTTG than see it?

The pictures are so much better that way.

Definitely agree with you regarding listening to HHGTTG. It takes me back quite some time.

Thanks for the 808 info.

I always seem to look at a clock at exactly 11:38, whether it's AM or PM, at least once a day. since it's a significant number OUTSIDE of that, too, I usually take notice.

Any time which is palindromic, ascending, or descending, also makes me think weird things. That's pretty much it, except for the special one, 4:04. I hate that time.

4:04, huh? Interesting.

808

From: [identity profile] mineral777.livejournal.com
You win.
I checked the source of all things important (wikipedia) and this is what they say
808 State are an English electronic music outfit formed in 1988 in Manchester, taking their name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. Widely regarded as being one of the pioneers of British acid house they were formed by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson (later to record as A Guy Called Gerald) and released their debut Newbuild in 1988. Autechre and Aphex Twin have often cited Newbuild as being enormously influential, and the group achieved some degree of chart success in the UK in the early 1990s with releases "Pacific State", "Cubik" and "In yer face".citation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/808_state)

in regards to 808 I generally think of an outkast song
"and I know you're part of that 808 can you give some of that b-a-s-s bass."

word.
