What Were They Thinking?
Here's an interesting observation about the people who go on ocean cruises from writer David Foster Wallace in his fascinating book, A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again: "I have heard upscale adult U.S. citizens ask the Guest Relations Desk (on a cruise ship) whether snorkeling necessitates getting wet, whether the skeet shooting will be held outside, whether the crew sleeps on board, and what time the Midnight Buffet is."
Stupid Style
Fashionable women in New York City go to foot surgeons to have liposuction on their toes or foot wrinkles removed with Botox. Why? So their feet will fit into designer shoes that cost as much as $12,000 a pair.
That's the price other people pay for a car they can drive while wearing Keds.
Dumb Plays in the Face of Fate
Twirling hoops around the waist--the fad that swept the country. Kids didn't seem to have much trouble with it. But when adults tried to spin the hoops, they wound up with pulled muscles and pinched nerves. Finally, so many adults died from twirling-induced heart attacks that doctors issued a warning: hoops kill. But we're not talking about hula hoops or the 1950s. This happened in England in the fourteenth century with wooden hoops.

And that $120,000 can buy a house. Or it can be used to help those in need.
Socialites annoy me.

However I would like to say this is not neccessarily a new idea. Women used to have ribs removed for the name of fashion and to wear high society clothing.
Very sad, that we dont we seem to progress, but rather just to find even more odd things to fo to our body.
