Mind's Eye

It's annoying, and occasionally frightening, whenever my eyes see something that is clearly not there. A few moments ago, it seemed clear that someone just walked by the office door, so it'd probably be a good idea to take care swinging the door open. After stepping out, it was really clear that there had been no one out there at all.

Sure, it'd be easy to think that perhaps said person ran into another office, or onto the elevator, but all the office doors have locks that have three digit codes, and there was no distinctive -DING!- of the elevator making a stop on our floor either.

The other evening, in my daughter's room I had to do a double take when I saw a book lying on the floor. It was The Christmas Carol, but I read it as something else, substituting the last C word for another C word that isn't really Christmas-like at all. Well, unless one's a major player in pr0n.

This sort of thing has happened to me at least as far back as the third grade. Back then, the situation didn't involve a person, but a mouse. It'd be a typical evening for me, watching the small black and white thirteen inch TV while waiting for my mom to get home from work, and while sitting there, I could have SWORN that a small blur of fur just darted from under the end table into the safe haven under the couch I was sitting on. This happened on and off for a bit, and I never mentioned anything to my mom, since I kind of felt pretty stupid about it.

Eventually, a mousetrap was purchased, and the issue was settled. It was indeed a mouse. A fast one. Didn't look too well fed, though.
