my roomates in Boston were freegans. They use to bring home literally hundreds of dollars worth of groceries that stores would just throw out. They were all unused.
yep. its not that complicated. they would hit up the dumpsters behind stores late at night. At some stores there were actually FIGHTS at the dumpsters, its rather popular in Boston. You would be amazed what stores throw away. Alot of dept stores just throw away returns.
Luna Tic recently converted his car to run on the cooking oil discarded by restaurants; he collects it from vats outside Chinese restaurants. He says he gets 12 miles to the gallon and recently drove from Salem, Ore., to Seattle burning nothing but recovered vegetable oil.
i think that's a neat idea. i'm not sure i would be willing to do that, though, especially without guidance.
I hear ya, I'm that way as well. With my limited mechanical skills, I'd be more likely to crack an engine block than get it to run on discarded cooking oil.

The article definitely piqued my curiosity.

Well, not so curious that I'd partake of it, though it'd be nice to find a PC parts shop that dumped returned parts out from time to time.
