Want

Someone's iPod longing post just made me look online and see what I would want as well.

I've longed for an iPod for quite some time now, but I'd take something else in its stead. That kind of space would be quickly filled up by the music collection spread out across four or five different hard drives here at work, and one at home.

Easily.

What makes that different from an iPod?

Good question. In essence, they are basically the same thing: a hard drive based MP3 player. Apple's iPod is pretty much top of the line, from what I understand, though I'm sure some people may disagree. Creative Labs has been around for a while, so I'd imagine they know what they're doing. I like the simple look of the iPod, very sleek.

There are other flash memory based ones, but they're more the 128 Mb or 256 Mb capacity that may hold one or two CDs worth of music, dependent on the sound quality of the music files. While I may not have 16,000 some songs, I'm well on my way to getting there, so 60 GB is really appealing to me.

If you want to read more about iPod, the latest Newsweek writes about them in their feature story.

Yeah, there's been quite a bit of media coverage on the iPod. Today had some time devoted to it, I saw the cover of Newsweek at the library the other day.

All signs point to getting an MP3 player. :)

There's a 60GB iPod coming, it'll be $499, which is kinda pricey, but that sleek look and the incredibly great interface do make a difference. I'd bet a small amount that the iPod will be more reliable and longer-lived than the Creative thing.

The only thing about iPods is they don't do WMA files, but if that ain't an issue, fuhgeddaboudit.

Yeah, WMA compatibility isn't an issue. I know for some folks, most of their music is in WMA format, but I've pretty much stuck with MP3, and what is M4P from iTunes music store.

If you're already hooked on iTunes, iPod is DEFINITELY the way to go. Get the 40 or wait for the 60, nobody's saying how long it'll be for the 60 but it can't be too much longer; when the maker of the teeny 60GB HD came out with it, lhey "leaked" that Apple would be buying some. Apple was pissed!!

Yeah, iTunes and I have been getting along quite well. I have yet to pay for a song, since most of mine were acquired with Pepsi caps, or caps that were donated to me.

Now, to make a convincing argument for purchasing one to my wife.

Justifying that price is definitely the hard part. Don't forget Apple's incredible reliability though; I've got Macs on the floor in my department that are 7-8 years old and still in everyday use, in a production environment. Try THAT with a Winbox!

Precious, indeed! Our PCs are on a three rotation, and sometimes that isn't even fast enough.

60MB Nomad Zen is cool.

I will probably get one for Christmas.

But right now, I really want a Digital Camera!

What kind of digital cameras have you been looking for?

The only thing is the Nomad is surprisingly larger than an iPod

Ah! That's right, nothing matches the iPod for its sleek look and small size, huh? Dang.

I desire that more than an ipod
1. It is cheaper
2. It holds more songs 60GB
3. It is not made by apple or microsoft
4. It is different

Don't buy from Walmart aka the great satan you can buy it off their website w/ some cool attachments. Also Best buy has it for $239 right now.

PS great song Paul Simon is my hero.
