Toys

servermonkey: (Was a kid once...)

angryvixenAngry Vixen recently posted an entry about toys that one had really, really wanted when they were kids and the weight it carries now as a parent.

Abby, for example, has all of the My Little Pony toys that Rachel used to have when she was a little girl. On the other hand, I have none of the toys I used to have a child--a fact which I am still bitter and unforgiving to my mother about, but that's a whole another set of entries or perhaps a whole other journal about. Anyway, it also got me to thinking about the toys I used to have. The Atari 5200 system--that I just killed hours upon hours that could have been spent learning how to interact with others or say, exercising--is one that comes to mind. Another one was our Timex Sinclair 1000 which I loved, but our cassette decks did not--see, the software came on cassettes. Yeah, cassettes.

A few years back Rachel sold off my Super Nintendo Entertainment system in a garage sale, along with all the games I had amassed through my stint at the mom and pop video store I used to work at. I must add that I was asleep during said garage sale. I sincerely hope the young girl's psyche wasn't too horribly damaged from Mortal Kombat II and 3 that her grandma unsuspectingly bought for her.

I don't know about you, but I'm still big about toys, and hope I remember to save the ones that Abby and Jon really like for later years--until they choose to get rid of them or not.

Now I want to listen to The Happy Worker and The Closing of The Year.
