Everything You Always Wanted to Know but Were Too Smart to Ask
Why is cruel and unusual punishment against the law?

Who are we kidding? All punishment is cruel. If they locked you up in a nice hotel suite with room service, cable TV, and a swimming pool, that wouldn't be punishment. It would be the Holiday Inn. And, we've been punishing people for so long, it's pretty hard to find an unusual way to do it. "First, we're going to put this bag of gumdrops on your foot, the 500-pound bag. Also you have to watch Oprah reruns for the next ten to twenty years." Now that would be unusual punishment.

I've been neglecting my LJ for a couple of days.

Work has actually required some effort over the last few days. We've been short one or two people dependent on the day. Some days, it's just been me. Talk about NOT fun.

Time has been eaten up converting files from WMA to MP3 format. Right now, my PC is in the middle of a batch of 273 songs that need to be converted. There are something like 1200 songs that I'm going to eventually have to convert. If anyone has any music suggestions, I'll gladly take them. mineral777Adam offered up a lengthy list of stuff to seek out and I need to start doing that. The conversion of songs flies at 17x or 18x speed. It's the ENCODING that slows everything down to 5x or 6x speed. Very annoying, but whatever.

At home, I've managed to whittle down the MP3s on iTunes software to about 12.2 gigs of music. At work, well, I've lost count of the amount of music we have across our own office's PCs. It'll be at least 10 GB, and probably more like 20 or so.

Why am I so interested in organizing MP3 files? Well, I found a 30 GB Zen Xtra for $165.00 shipped. There was NO WAY I was getting into an iPod for that price. Who knows, perhaps later on, I'll end up getting an iPod nonetheless, but I'm not holding my breath. It would be really nice if there were something for the Zen like the Griffin iTrip transmitter that draws power from the player. There's an interesting Audiax one I've seen, but it only has a range of six feet. Another Belkin model has a range that's something like 10 to 30 feet. mineral777Adam also told me about some people he either knows or read about that would have H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds on their MP3 player and the transmit it as far as they could whenever they heard someone say, blasting some hardcore rap. It'd be cool to have the intro to The Outer Limits to do something similar with. The old intro, not so much the newer intro to the current The Outer Limits.

So, the Zen should arrive between the 25th and 28th. I'm hoping more for a delivery date of the 25th, but again, not holding my breath.

Mmmm. Terra just split a Mountain Dew with me. . .mmmm, caffeine!

Man. I wonder what Mix-A-Lot thinks of this?

EDIT - Apparently, I'm a little slow with this one. Oh well, there it is nonetheless.

EDIT part II - Here's an alternate link to it, unfortunately it's borked on and off.

1. Total amount of music files on your computer:
Dependent on the computer I have between two to eight thousand songs, possibly more since I don't recall when I did my last count.

2. The last CD you bought was:
Ned's Atomic Dustbin - God Fodder on eBay. Does that count?

3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?
It was yesterday, and I can't remember. Sad. Too busy for music lately.

4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
This is tough for me, but I'll try. . .
10,000 Maniacs - Tension Makes a Tangle
Descendents - Christmas Vacation
Out of the Grey - Steady Me
R.E.M. - Hairshirt
Ride - Vapour Trail

5. A song that will get any song out of my head:
Lately, Cake's version of Mahna Mahna. Really.

6. Who are you going to pass this stick to? (3 persons) and why?
Any three that'll have it?

Comment if you've done any of these, then post your list of 10 unusual things you've done in your journal.

1. I was an uncredited extra in a movie that Lauren Hollly was in (didn't get to see her, though).
2. I can link myself to Kevin Bacon in a roundabout way thanks to that movie I just mentioned. It's about as famous as I'll ever get.
3. I almost passed out when Rachel had the C section for Jonothan's delivery.
4. I've remained piercing free so far.
5. At one point, Back to the Future was required weekend viewing for me. Every weeked for probably two or three years.
6. Rachel and I missed Tori Amos at Express in the Brandon Mall by about fifteen or twenty minutes. We made it on time to her concert later on that night.
7. I interned at a Christian radio station. Interesting, to put it mildly. Now defunct station, sadly.
8. I sing along with the different kids songs while driving Abby and Jonothan to day care.
9. I would probably buy all sorts of copies of Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek if I could.
10. I used to have a mullet. Yes, a MULLET.
