New Winamp Beta

It's here: http://www.nullsoft.com/cookie/winamp29beta2_full.exe

Eventually, skinning features from 3.0 will be incorporated into 2.8 and then Nullsoft is skipping 4.0 and releasing 5.0, Netscape style. 3.0 is dead, and I hope it remains that way. I'm not altogether sure what's true or not, but there you are. . .

I am so glad that 3.0 is being discontinued. It, uh, sucked. It did not whip the llama's ass at all.

A short Post Script (the read me of the Winamp installer:

Known issues:

* The Vorbis tag updating through the media library may be buggy, please test.

* the minibrowser page says "upgrade". =)

* running a fullscreen visualization plugin when playing video (or vice versa) can be bad
(i.e. cause Winamp to quit). This appears to be a directdraw issue, we'll figure out why.

* new extended skin format may change for 2.90, so don't distribute new skins too widely.

* some AVI/MPEG/ASF/etc videos may be flipped, due to directshow weirdness. We will work to correct this as
much as possible.

* Some MPEG2 video decompressors (latest PowerDVD one apparently) may have issues with playback.

* Many more configuration options and fixes should be added in the 2.90 to 2.9x land. Enjoy.

And so far, I haven't noticed too much of a difference at all. Oh well.

My biggest complaints with Windows Media Player are:

1) It always seemed like such a memory hog to me.

B) I could never figure out how to jump from song to song at my leisure, and I could never get the keyboard commands (are there any?).

It could be a matter of a strong anti-Microsoft sentiment.

yeah, there are keyboard commands i think, though i have never used them (bless the logitech keyboard media buttons). at first i was very adverse to WMP, but it has definitely grown on me (plus they keep making cool new features). i like how it automatically adds every song i download into folders i designate to my media library. it also has a really good search engine thingy, so i can catagorize songs as having to do with astronauts, search for "astronauts" and they all come up =)

LOL @ your media buttons comment.

I guess it's a matter of me getting older and resisting change. The sorting feature is indeed a nice thing, as I tend to get retentive about how my MP3s are grouped and such.

I've also heard/read about Windows XP and Media Player getting along so well that you can select all of your MP3s and it'll go out and auto-tag 'em pretty reliably.

Unfortunately, I don't run XP, and am going to fight it as long as I can.

How many songs with astronauts are there? Right now, only Space Oddity and Major Tom come to mind.
