I, Chump

servermonkey: (Crow la la la)
It is with reluctance that I have to admit that I sat and watched the DVD pushing evening long advertising campaign on the WB--er, I mean the first episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson's Creek last night. Rachel had wanted to catch Felicity and I was saddened that we didn't get to catch Angel. Let's see, BTVS we watched for almost its entire run. Same thing with Dawson's Creek, well really more Rachel than I, but Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams were easy on the eyes, you know? We stuck with Angel for the first three seasons, left and then came back again for the end.

It made me feel so old. It also made me feel like I've watched entirely too much television since I finished school.

Yeah.

Whoa!

servermonkey: (The Geek)
Two commercials caught my eye today.

The first one was for Urine Gone. Yes, if you're living in home that is simply swilling in urine, then you NEED Urine Gone. Not only would one get the incredible enzyme action of Urine Gone, but you'll get a black light to highlight problem urine areas (the toilet that was shown in the actual commerical looked like it had a urine filled balloon flung at it--well one can only hope anyway) AND a bonus lint roller as well! Yes, Urine Gone!

Coincidentally, the episode of Dragon on Qubo this morning dealt with Dragon figuring out how to take care of his cat, which had a severe smelly yellow puddle problem.

Now, the site for NobelSmile doesn't actually have the ad, which is a real shame because the poor actress that demoed the all-ceramic crowns had what looked like fungus infected toenails for front teeth. Thanks to TiVo, Rachel and I could do a double-take and take another look at the TV spot.

And now...

A moment for personal hygiene.

I'd never seen this one, so I figured I'd share. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did...and by enjoy it, I mean sit in front of your screen with a furrowed brow.

Soapy's so creepy. Not quite Burger King from the recent commercials creepy, but creepy nonetheless.

Huh...

Have I gotten too busy and neglected this LJ again?

Yeah. I have.

Finally did close on our house on the 21st of last month. Took a week off after that, since I had the days and we would save some money on day care costs if we started Abby and Jon this week instead of last week.

Abby seems to like her new school, though I don't think Jon likes being dropped off. He screamed yesterday morning, and while it was my first instinct to stay for a bit longer but I had to get going to work, so I did not. Same thing today, though he didn't scream he just cried a bit. Not my favorite part of day care, let me say that.

Have been doing a bit more cooking to save a bit on the budget, made three peach pound cakes in the last couple of weeks. All turned out well, however, I accidentally used 1/2 cup of butter instead of a full cup of butter for my first cake. So, it tasted good, just a bit different. Tasted much better with the full cup in. Richer, obviously. Failed miserably with the peach cobbler recipe I had. It was okay, just not really what I liked. We're going to try with Rachel's mom's cobbler recipe and see if I like that better. I'm planning on making some pseudo-fried rice tonight as I'd like to try out a recipe I found for White/Shrimp sauce...though I think it's a bit strong. The rice vinegar and garlic powder scent that emanated from it was quite powerful. I've done fried rice (sort of) before, and it was edible, so I'll try it again. Last week, made Alton Brown's stove top macaroni and cheese for the kids. They loved the stuff, so I'll have to make it again sometime. Also made some bow ties with Alfredo sauce...wouldn't mind making that again sometime--and I STILL need to dig up a chicken Diane recipe since I've been thinking about that for some time now.

Okay...so now I'm hungry.

SDK!

servermonkey: (Daemon process)
So I've long been looking for a way to get rid of all the dead tracks in my iTunes library (sad, but true) for a while now and ended up discovering the iTunes COM Windows SDK, which one person used to do this.

Amusing to say the least, though I wish I'd found that SDK long before today.

I must sadly admit that my list is not ABBA free.

Has the GEICO commercial with Burt Bacharach singing been in rotation very long?

It's just so odd, him sitting there singing what sounded to me like, "I hope I don't get it in the rear again."

No, he was not singing to the gecko but some middle aged woman who was describing an accident she had recently.

I hate when I buy things and forget I'd put them in the shopping cart undercarriage--or whatever you call that.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it annoys the [expletive of your choice deleted] out of me.

While Rachel was graceful enough to remind that it was, after all, only $3.50 I'm still pretty angry at myself for being so stupid.
servermonkey: (Evil Monkey)
Have I seen William Shatner DVD Club before and just not noticed?

Thanks mineral777Adam for the link.

How odd.

servermonkey: (Bert)
Mark (my boss) printed out bracket sheets for all of us to fill out and post. Just for fun, no money involved or anything.

I filled mine out fairly randomly, going by standing and how much of the particular team can be associated with the number three. Really. I hardly follow sports, yet have managed to get all my picks correct (so far).

My picks...have been right? So ODD. I'm trying to find a way to post them.

EDIT - I picked Pacific over Boston College...and BC won. In second OT. Oh well, that I got any right is still surprising to me.

Mutant!

servermonkey: (Nightcrawler)
I take it my mutant power is growing strange little teeth? I remember reading in my instruction sheet for my extractions that I might have a bit of bone growth (well, I think I remember, I've since thrown that sheet out).

Anyway, it seems I'm cutting a little mini-tooth near where my impacted wisdom tooth used to be. Now, this is not the first time that this has happened. This happened previously. It grew in on the inside side of my mouth, jagged and very much like a crescent shaped shark tooth. Except human and not as sharp and point as a shark tooth. Okay, it was more of an odd crescent shaped little tooth. After growing in, and getting settled, it just fell out and and I threw it out. I should have kept it. No, I did NOT put it under my pillow for tooth fairy money, just threw it out.

If this one falls out (which I hope it does), I'm keeping it. It's REALLY slow in the growing in, though. Cutting teeth at 33? Fun.

Renuzit

servermonkey: (Everything Sucks)
Brisa Del ParaĆso...while it's no paradise in our men's room, it's certainly a bit better than it has been.

People still have not learned to flush, though.

It's a difficult task, the flushing thing. My four year old forgets sometimes.

But, she's four, and we constantly remind her when she does forget.

I know you are all probably quite done with my discussion about my tooth extractions, but it's just weird having a wandering tongue that keeps probing around the extra living space that it now has however minuscule it might be.

Tongue is getting more adventurous as well, feeling around and actually feeling the stitches as well as stretching out and such.

I do lead an exciting life.

It's so weird to see Miles Davis on Miami Vice, but sure enough, there he is.

aiiee!

servermonkey: (Worried Dinosaur)
This morning seems to be jump out in front of Server Monkey's mini-van to narrowly avoid death morning.

Before dropping the kids off, a pair of Sandhill Cranes (very similar to Whooping Cranes, but smaller in stature and more of a grayish color instead of white) saw my van driving along and entered into flight mode. The problem was that their projected course was in my van's path. So, I had to slam on my brakes to try and avoid the things--they too, made a course correction and all was well. Well, mostly all. Abby did not like this type of driving one bit, and let me know about it. Already a backseat driver, that one.

About five minutes after dropping them off, and while I was in the middle of enjoying Run DMC's Run's House, I drove by one of the golf cart dealerships--yes, there is more than one golf cart dealer around here--and entered the Rottweiler slalom course. Two HUGE Rotts darted out onto highway 60 in front of my van. I yelled out, "Oh my GOD!" then braked, and actually managed to avoid the dogs. I don't know how there was enough space between both of them, and how I did it at 55 m.p.h. or so, but there we are. I glanced quickly in my rear-view mirror and then they darted back to the dealership. The van behind me was a complete stop, but I don't think they hit the dogs. No telling whether or not they continued their morning time play in the road routine, though.

I promise I am not on any medication, and I did get enough sleep--unlike the one time I did imagine a dragon with glowing eyes looking back at me through the large expanse of trees that were located close to the apartment I was living at at the time. Being up for nearly forty eight hours does me no good. I was going to write that that would be a story for another time, but you can pretty much get the gist of it now.

Forgot to mention that one morning this week that someone must have given one of the many squirrels around here a very large chocolate chip cookie. All I could see when looking at the thing was the cookie and then two little furry paws holding it and then the little squirrel head peeping up to take small bites of cookie. He wasn't at all bothered by my walking near it, though I wondered if it might have thought that I might try taking its cookie.

I didn't.

This morning, Mark (our department head) and I were walking up the stairs to our offices and noticed some writing on the sidewalk. Written in pastel yellow chalk was, "You're Beatiful." Perhaps it was an inebriated homage to James Blunt?

Not a very good one, though. At least the you're part wasn't your.

For a quick moment, I thought I was just fascinated by primes, but I guess I just like numbers.

A lot.
